The ODBC Driver for Oracle conforms to the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) specification described in the ODBC Programmer's Reference. I've read that ODBC isn't supported for Live/Direct and i'm not sure whether that affects the compatability, but should it be possible to use an ODBC dataset with on-premises gateway? I'm not sure what i'd gain from using on-premesis as opposed to personal when it comes to ODBC.

Sep 24, 2019 Microsoft ODBC for Oracle While creating ODBC connection to Oracle I'm getting this error message 'The Oracle (TM) client and networking components were not found.These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3. Correct the ORACLEHOME path. There could be two oracle clients in the system. I had the same issue, the reason being my ORACLEHOME was pointed to the oracle installation which was not having the tns.ora file. The Oracle ODBC Driver uses the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) client and server software to submit requests to and receive responses from the data source. Oracle Net Services communications protocol is used for communications between the OCI client and the Oracle server. The ODBC Driver for Oracle complies with API Conformance Level 1 and SQL Conformance Level Core. It also supports some functions in API Conformance Level 2 and most of the grammar in the Core and Extended SQL conformance levels. The driver is ODBC 2.5 compliant and supports 32-bit systems. Oracle 7.3x is supported fully; Oracle8 has limited support. The ODBC Driver for Oracle does not support any of the new Oracle8 data types - Unicode data types, BLOBs, CLOBs, and so on - nor does it support Oracle's new Relational Object Model.
