I came across these two services separately running in Services.msc -

• SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) - started+Automatic
• SQL Server Agent (SQLEXPRESS) - Disabled

Can you please guide why do we need SQL Server Agent (SQLEXPRESS)?

Jul 07, 2009  Express doesn't come with SQL Server Agent. Because of this, one of the limitations in SSMSE is that it doesn't show Agent even when you connect to a 'real' SQL Server. If you have a buy version of SQL Server (non-express), then go find the CD that came with it, remove SSMSE, and install the'real' management Studio from the CD.
